Survivors of the deforestation that once ravaged this area, these guardian trees inspire us to continue preserving the jungle and its diverse ecosystem, home to mosses, fungi, and lichens. Along the way, we will explore the forest from different perspectives.

We will descend along a marked trail, immersed in the Amazon rainforest, to cool off in one of the lodge’s two rivers. For a closer option, the Tiraco River offers a natural pool with small seating areas and gentle waterfalls.

This interpretive hike helps us understand the forest: we’ll gradually ascend to the viewpoint, where we’ll gain a new perspective of the hotel immersed in the Amazon. On the way down, we’ll follow a trail where the sounds—including the flowing water—awaken our senses.

Among them are tanagers and toucans moving through the treetops, feeding as the sun rises through the mist of the Cordillera Escalera. There are several observation points within Bosque Guardián and its surroundings, offering sightings not only of birds but also of diverse wildlife.

We’ll explore Bosque Guardián with our flashlights, specifically around a lagoon where we’ll find a great variety of nocturnal amphibians and multicolored insects—active and lively. Nearby, on tree trunks or nestled in the ground, we’ll spot the homes of tarantulas.

At Bosque Guardián, we love sharing our purpose: we’ll get to know several trees from this part of the jungle, choose one, and plant it with care in a ceremony of connection and commitment to our land.

Since the creation of Bosques de Papel, this workshop has connected people with the land and its materials. Here, you'll have the opportunity to meet master papermakers, gather the ingredients, and go through every step of crafting a unique piece of paper.

On our farm, you'll discover different cacao varieties and taste their fruits straight from the trees. Then, you'll learn about the harvesting, drying, and other processing steps. The most delicious part comes in the chocolate workshop, where you'll craft it by hand.

Here, you'll interact with these bees and learn how they are raised and how they produce their special honey, known for its medicinal benefits and ability to prevent the growth of microbes and fungi. Additionally, through their role as pollinators, you'll discover their essential connection to the forest.

Along the way, we’ll come across some of the camera traps we’ve installed in the forest to monitor and protect this magnificent feline. In this part of the Cordillera Escalera, rare black specimens have even been spotted through the Jaguar Plan.

A few kilometers from Bosque Guardián, you'll find Aconabikh, the **Association for the Conservation of Birds and Biodiversity Koepcke’s Hermit**, a private reserve where you can spot the hermit hummingbird or the golden-headed manakin along trails that also lead to waterfalls.

In the heart of the tropical forest, you can visit a variety of waterfalls at different points along the slope, forming pristine pools. Exploring them is also a way to support the conservation efforts that El Progreso carries out across 720 hectares of the Cordillera Escalera.

The delightful challenge of climbing gradually up the slope reaches its peak when you encounter a stretch that can only be crossed with the help of ropes. Once past this obstacle, you can immerse yourself in a stunning, crystal-clear, and blissful blue pool.

The different levels of these waterfalls are reached through an enjoyable path of stairs, bridges, and stones, flanked by crystal-clear pools and lush vegetation. They are named after a mythical Amazonian goblin said to have one animal foot and one human foot.

These are Quechua names: the first means "woodpecker's water," and the second, "vagina's water," referring to the shape of the rocks from which the waterfall flows. About halfway through the journey, you can bathe in warm, revitalizing waters after crossing the Tiraco River by raft.
