BOSQUE GUARDIÁN

Getting to know the Amazon

Amidst the high jungle of Peru, in the valley of the Tiraco River, the Bosque Guardian Association is steadily regenerating lands that, not long ago, were damaged by livestock, logging and other acts of human destruction. While reforesting the area with native species, we are also protecting the primary forest in order to promote economic and social alternatives for locals. By doing so we discourage poaching of wildlife and cutting down trees, as well as promote environmental education, scientific and artistic research, among other activities that allow us to better understand this part of the Amazon.

149870 Protected hectares in the
ACR-Cordillera
167 Tree species
100 + Frog species
20 Reforested hectares in the
Tiraco Valley

Forest of Protection

We work with the great wealth of landscapes, flora and fauna of Peru’s Amazon: a grand ecosystem under restoration.

Plan Jaguar
We are beginning to change the local perception of this feline from enemy to an ally that naturally maintains balance in the ecosystem.
Forest Census
We have identified the main botanical species in order to design a protection plan for a jungle degraded by agriculture and cattle raising.
Reforestation
Using a detailed plan for monitoring and management, we have reforested open fields within our conservation area and beyond.
Organic Garden
Organic waste created by Bosque Guardian and in nearby hamlets is composted in order to fertilize organic crops grown on-site as well as our plant nursery.
Agroforestry
Since 2021 we have worked in the agroforestry system with cacao and other native species to create economic alternatives through non-predatory agriculture.
Meliponiculture
We harvest honey from stingless bees (Tetragonisca angustula) known locally as “ramichi,” an endemic species that’s been around since pre-Hispanic times.
