Discover our history: A commitment to nature and communities
Why Bosque Guardian Lodge
We seek to redefine the term “luxury” to assure complete comfort in the Amazon rainforest and, in addition, become part of its conservation. Since 2018, we have belonged to the Bosque Guardian Association, which develops environmental and community projects in this part of the Cordillera Escalera mountain range. Staying at our lodge is not only a way of protecting Amazonian ecosystems, but also one that positively impacts local communities and the people who visit us.
Bosque Guardian connects with the Amazon at various levels and paths. We monitor environmental well-being through the Plan Jaguar, a system of camera traps that help maintain the habitat of this great South American feline. We strive to evidence how the interconnection between nature and human beings is strengthened through recognition, research, agroforestry—with a spotlight on cacao—as well as social initiatives, such as stingless beekeeping (meliponiculture) and the Bosques de Papel artisanal paper workshop, where women work with natural fibers and recycled paper to manufacture notebooks, wallets, among other hand-crafted pieces.
Bosque Guardian Lodge is a unique stay experience in the Peruvian Amazon, inviting visitors to share our commitment to forest conservation through the sustainable activities we offer, while promoting tourism and the local economy in neighboring communities such as El Progreso and San José. We strive for excellence in sustainable tourism and conservation by revaluing the cultures of the area, supporting the community we belong to, and preserving nature.
Our commitment is to the communities along the Tiraco River and to all the grandeur that surrounds and welcomes us. This love and empathy for the Amazonian forests inspire us to share this passion—at every moment—with our visitors, travelers, and explorers of nature, art, and science. Through this connection between people and their surroundings, we develop creative, sustainable, and liberating learning experiences that transform into shared lifestyles built on respect.
THE STORY BEHIND BOSQUE GUARDIAN LODGE
In 2017, our founders—through their passion for the rainforest and recognition of the potential of the Cordillera Escalera Regional Conservation Area (ACR, its acronym in Spanish)—decided to create an organization that could protect the land in the buffer zone of the ACR, a strip bordering the IIRSA North Highway along the stretch between Tarapoto and Yurimaguas, which had been negatively affected by farming and cattle-ranching activities. Later, the idea of creating a hotel emerged to support the Amazon and Bosque Guardian, the NGO. Although construction of the lodge began in 2019, with the goal of starting operations in 2020, the pandemic postponed the plans until late 2021. Today, Bosque Guardian owns 140 hectares of protected land in Peru’s cloud forest.
